Learn Guitar at Home

We offer a range of guitar styles thanks to the fantastic group of teachers we have at the Academy.

Lessons are available from first steps to advanced levels. We take a lot of care to help you learn the music you connect with, whatever style that may be: From Indie to Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical.

We also help aspiring songwriters with their own journey and writing process.

Most importantly, absolute beginners are very welcome, we have many happy students starting at every age

 

Meet your Teachers

Jack Palmer

Jack is a performer, composer, artist and teacher; he has a bachelor of music majoring in jazz guitar from ANU and has performed music in cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra as well as regional centres in Victoria and New South Wales.

Adrian Burruto

Adrian Burruto is an active Melbourne songwriter and sound artist who has released music as a solo artist (under the moniker Yokey) and is currently finalising a release with his new project No Teeth Motif. His acts have received support from 3RRR, PBS FM, Triple J and by the Melbourne community at large.

Matt Hood

Matt is an avid guitarist and a keen teacher, whose musical interests range from rock to classical, jazz to fingerstyle. With over fifteen years spent playing, and a Bachelor of Music majoring in Contemporary Guitar from the University of Melbourne, he is well equipped to help anybody purse whichever style of music catches their ear.

Michael Avery

Michael Avery, is a graduate of Melbourne University and The Victorian College of the arts where he majored in classical guitar. He has a broad interest in music from contemporary to classical. He has played in a variety of bands including Melbourne's own 'World's End Press'. As a teacher, he specialises in classical guitar.

We focus on learning the songs of your favourite artists/bands.

Learn techniques such as: 

  1. Using a pick/plectrum

  3. Chords and Strumming

  4. Hammer-ons/Pull-offs/Bends/slides

Gain knowledge in areas such as:

  1. Practical theory

  2. Reading Tabs

  3. Advanced rhythms

  4. Scales for soloing

Pop Guitar

Popular Music of the last 50+ years, to today (and tomorrow)

Including, but not limited to:

We focus on learning the songs of your own favourite artists/bands

Learn techniques such as: 

  1. Using a pick/plectrum

  3. Songwriting Analysis

Acoustic Guitar

  3. Songwriting Analysis


Jazz Guitar

Based around fundamentals of Melody, Harmony and Improvisation, our Jazz stream includes over 100 years of influential music.

Including, but not limited to:

Modern Jazz, Trad Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Free Jazz, Bebop

Learn techniques such as: 

  1. Using a pick/plectrum

  2. Fingerstyle

  3. Basic to advanced scale substitutions

Gain knowledge in areas such as:

  1. Reading chord charts

  2. Free Improvisation

  3. Soloing over Jazz Chords


Classical-guitar-teacher

Classical Guitar

We offer one of the best places to learn classical guitar in Melbourne. We incorporate the best of old and new classical guitar technique. Styles include:

Spanish Classical, Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary Classical, Early Lute Music

Whether you are coming as a complete beginner or advanced player, classical guitar is a fantastic instrument to learn. 

The process is very enjoyable and rewarding. We have taken many students from first steps to university level.

If you have never played a note in your life, no need to worry! Absolute beginners are very welcome.
